SCOUT OF THE WEEK

Adam

Adam is our Scout of the Week because he makes good choices for his behavior during D.E.A.R. Time and Centers in Miss Camp’s class. He listens carefully to the directions, participates in our class discussions, and gives his best effort in all of his work. He is also very kind to everyone.

Congratulations Adam!
READER BUDDIES OF THE WEEK

Eric and Adam P.

Eric and Adam P. are our Reader Buddies of the Week. As Adam (1st grade) read to Eric (3rd grade), Eric helped Adam by pointing to words, talking about the pictures, and being an attentive audience. Eric knows that being the listener is just as important as being the reader!

Congratulations Eric and Adam P.!
BC ICEMEN VISIT LWW

In support of PARP (“Parents as Reading Partners” sponsored by the PTA), BC Icemen hockey players came to LWW on Wednesday. Ross Dufresne (#2) and R.J. Gates (#8) read to Miss Camp’s and Mrs. Gould’s classes. Ross read Miss Nelson is Missing.

Ross and R.J. have a lot in common. They are from Connecticut. They started skating when they were 4 years old. And they both graduated from college.

The B.C. Icemen are in 2nd place in their division right now. They have played 52 games so far this season, and they have one about 28. Ross plays defense and R.J. plays offense.

It was fun to have them visit our school, talk about themselves, and read books to us.

CITY GREEN: RE-TELLING MARCY'S STORY
(writing a Character Analysis)

There are 2 steps to writing a character analysis.

  1. Mrs. Green had the students in the City Green Book Club consider what Marcy did first, and then sequentially throughout the story, and what kind of person it would take to do each of those things. We used a graphic organizer to help us do this.
  2. When it came time to write the paragraph, Mrs. Green asked the students to think about which trait was the most important – the main thing the author wanted us to know about Marcy. To write the paragraph, we only included the events that proved that trait as we told her story.

GRAPHIC ORGANIZER

  2. Marcy got the neighbors to sign a petition and rent the lot from the city.

  4. Marcy helped grow a garden.
THE PARAGRAPH

Character Analysis of Marcy

Marcie was determined to clean up the lot. Marcy wished for the lot to be beautiful. She got the neighbors to sign a petition and rent the lot from the city. She gathered the neighbors to clean the lot. Marcy and the neighbors grew a garden. People can now relax in the lovely garden lot because of Marcy’s determination and thoughtfulness.

Our "juicy" words are underlined.
