What does it mean to "make a difference"?
Before we could come up with ideas about how we can make a difference in our community or in the world, we had to understand what it means to make a difference. For example:
BEFORE |
ACTION
 |
AFTER |
Go-cart with no wheels | Add wheels | Go-cart runs |
Fire pit with no fire | Add sticks, matches | Have campfire |
Josh's broken arm | Doctor puts on cast | Josh's arm is fixed |
Many little voices saying the Pledge | National Pledge at 2 p.m. EST across country | One big VOICE saying the Pledge |
Kids have no toys, food (are hungry) | Donate toys, school supplies, cans of food | Kids have fun, aren't hungry |

WAYS TO "MAKE A DIFFERENCE"
Camp Linus scouts brainstormed ways to "make a difference," and this is the list we came up with:
- Sharing Parade (holiday baskets)
- Operation Christmas Child (shoeboxes of toys and crayons/paper, etc. for kids around the world)
- Food Drive (cans of food)
- Mitten Tree (socks & mittens)
- CHOW
- Pick up garbage on ground
- Rake leaves for neighbors
- Help parents
- Help elderly people
- Letters of encouragement (i.e. to firemen in NY City)
- $1 for kids in Afghanistan
- Read to younger kids
- Plant a tree or flowers
- Recycle
