THE HOBBIT by J.R.R. Tolkien

When Bilbo woke up, the dwarves had already left. Gandalf helped Bilbo catch up with the dwarves. After a long, miserable day of riding their ponies, the dwarves and Bilbo stopped for the night…but Gandalf had disappeared.

They were cold, wet, hungry, and could not get a fire started. When they saw a light coming from the woods on a hill, they sent Bilbo to investigate. He found three trolls.

While trying to pick a troll’s pocket, Bilbo was caught. Soon all of the dwarves were captured. Things looked grim.

Gandalf appeared in time to rescue them. He tricked the trolls into staying outside after the sun came up. That turned the dwarves into stone.

After visiting the trolls’ cave, and taking two special swords for Thorin and Gandalf, the group rode for three days until they found the elves who would point out the right path for them to take over the mountain.

THE ANSWERS TO THE MOON QUESTIONS

  1. The moon is not a star or a planet. It is a satellite of earth – an object that travels around earth.

  2. The moon does have gravity. It is about 1/5 as strong as Earth’s gravity.

  3. The Earth’s tides are caused by the moon’s gravity.

  4. Moonlight is the reflection of light from the sun on the moon.

  5. Lunar eclipse is when the Earth comes between the sun and the moon, and the shadow of the earth blocks out the light side of the moon.

  6. There is no air or water on the moon. Astronauts have to wear oxygen tanks so that they can breathe.

  7. During a Solar eclipse, the moon comes between the Earth and the sun. The moon blocks out all or part of the sun.

  8. As the moon travels around the Earth, we see different parts of it lit up by the sun.
